Intelligent containerization, digital analysis and robotized treatment of electric vehicle batteries to optimize new handling and transport processes for second life management and revaluation

Description

The main objective of the project is industrial research on the management of electric vehicle batteries for the definition of a process that integrates these residues in other energy uses, minimizing their disposal in landfills and providing circularity to these products. This combines two aspects of maximum relevance in the energy sector such as energy storage and circular economy. Digicircular-Batt will combine two highly topical aspects in the energy sector, i.e. energy storage and the circular economy.

Objectives

The new targeted industrial process aims to achieve optimal collection, handling, management, analysis, screening and reconditioning of used EV batteries for their viable composition as second-use energy storage assets. Regarding this process conceptualization, automatic, robotic and digital systems are designed and integrated. In this way, a comprehensive and coordinated solution is presented, with the character of an industrial manufacturing process and high connotations in terms of its digitalization and robotization.

Results

Research and design of an automated diagnostic method for prismatic battery modules, for the optimal determination of use over a set of possible second lives. This method designs and combines different technologies for electromechanical analysis, health index determination and post-mortem analysis.

This project is part of the call of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism for Innovative Business Groups with the aim of improving the competitiveness of SMEs within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
