HEIMDAL

Design and development of security analysis and vulnerability detection methodologies for cyber-attacks targeting smart device hardware and communications

Description

The digital transformation of industries is having a profound impact on Industrial Control Systems (SCI). Cost and performance improvements have fostered the evolution of ICS by leveraging IT and OT capabilities in existing systems, resulting in many of today’s “smart” systems, such as the smart grid, smart transportation, smart buildings, and Industry 4.0.

Aligned with the objectives set by the Valencian Community and Europe, and in order to provide the technology that makes it possible, the main objective of the HEIMDAL project is to analyse the potential cybersecurity vulnerabilities of the intelligent devices present in Smart Cities and Industry 4.0, analysing their cybersecurity from two points of view: on the one hand, against in-situ attacks that involve hardware manipulation and, on the other, against attacks that interfere with their communications.

Objectives

Analysis of the potential cybersecurity vulnerabilities of smart devices present in Smart Cities and Industry 4.0 against in-situ attacks involving hardware manipulation and attacks that interfere with their communications. Additionally, assessing the impact on the infrastructures that make up the operation ecosystem and providing design methodologies and technological solutions to mitigate these vulnerabilities and/or their impact. This all takes place within a test scenario with a high degree of certainty, repeatability and representative.
