From the Instituto Tecnológico de la Energía (ITE) we have the objective of facilitating the process of sustainable and efficient energy transition to companies and society.

HYSGRID+

Intelligent Management of Energy Resources in Local Energy Communities

Description

The objective of the Cervera HySGRID+ Network is to strengthen the technological capacity and promote solid cooperation between Spanish technology centres with a high level of complementarity. The ultimate goal will be to research and develop innovative technological solutions that facilitate the creation of highly efficient Local Energy Communities with net positive balance (LECP) based on hybrid systems of renewable generation and storage.

Objectives

The Cervera HysGrid+ excellence network aims to address the development and validation of enabling technologies and methodologies that allow:

  • Plan and design local energy communities under positive energy balance assumptions
  • Efficiently manage the community with the support of flexible resources (storage system, manageable loads, recharging stations…) to ensure a positive net balance.
  • Ensuring the stability and reliability of internal networks (thermal and electrical) in all operating modes
  • Integrate the community’s thermal and electrical grids, facilitating the exchange of energy flows between them.
  • Facilitate the exchange of energy between the different members of the community and with the transmission or distribution network, taking into account various operational, economic, environmental and social criteria.

Results

2022 Results

  • Certification of the communications associated with the client under the OCPP 1.6 protocol for the management and monitoring of recharging stations ( https://www.openchargealliance.org/certification/certifiedcompanies/ ).
  • Study of the European standard for electric vehicle communications.
  • Development and simulation of a management strategy focused on domestic charging stations for participation in local energy markets that will later be validated in a controlled environment: the ITE pilot.
  • Development of a digital twin of energy communities with the objective of planning the optimal operation of integrated equipment capable of simulating the real response of the equipment and implementing machine learning techniques to improve operability by detecting possible anomalies.
  • HiL development of an energy community based on the GAMMA laboratory.
  • Development of three optimization models for different business models proposed under different forms of financing for community renewable energy projects in the planning phase.
  • Architecture approach of an energy community planning tool based on the four business models.
  • Development of a system with distributed intelligence for the active management of batteries and recharging stations, present in CELPs, for the optimization of the use of renewable energies, reduction of grid dependence and participation in Replacement Reserve Balancing services.
  • Development of domestic charging station management strategies for participation in local energy markets.
  • Study of exploitation models of local energy markets, conformed within the CELPs ecosystem and derived from P2P (peer to peer) transactions.
